The clinic in May saw Peta taking up all the work load while we interviewed for a new therapist. We are happy to wait for the right person to join our team and have found Tammy who fits in perfectly and gives a good strong massage, she is finishing up with her level 5 qualification and will start at the end of the month.
Sports massage treatments
Here are some of the things we got to treat this month at our sports massage clinic in Moorgate:
Far flung client: it is always a joy to see all our clients, but most especially those who no longer live or work in London. This month we were treated to a specially planned visit by a client we’d not seen in 3 or 4 years, now living in Scandinavia. She has been suffering with some chronic back pain and could not find anyone to resolve the problem back home, so she planned a special visit to London to see Peta. With only one appointment to resolve the problem we’re happy to report we got the problem solved.
Marathon PBs: May is a good month for those seeking marathon PBs as the weather can be cool enough to go your best. We had two PBs this month from clients who drop in for regular massages. They started seeing Peta with a running injury but now come back for maintenance which we think helps keep the injuries at bay.
Cycling hip pain: with the big events looming in June and July and the weather warming up enough to get out on those long miles, we’ve treated a few clients for problems caused by tight hips from sitting at desk all day. The pain was either in their lower back or knees, but the problem was around the hip area and free up the hips and getting key muscles working resolved both the back and knee problems.
Whiplash: after a coming together of heads in a rugby match about 2 months earlier, we saw this client for neck pain and headaches. It’s common for this to show a while after the event and often the poor pillow at home gets the blame. When Peta started working on the muscles around the neck and upper back were hypersensitive to touch and very tight – these often cause the headaches you get with a whiplash type injury, so we were happy to get our client out of pain and moving a bit more freely.
Grinding teeth and jaw pain: sharing space with a dental clinic means we get a few referred clients from the dentist relating to the jaw. Being city based we’re not surprised to see jaw tension caused by stressful jobs. After some delicate work around some of the jaw muscle and those strong chewing muscles (it took 4 sessions) and some chat about looking at destressing strategies, we’ve got this client out of pain and onto a monthly maintenance programme.
Endurance swimmers: one of our endurance swimmers is ramping up distance, we’re on duty to keep everything free up during these heavy training periods.
As always we’re still dealing with the run of the mill back, neck and shoulder problems and this month our sports massage clinic has been clients from Moorgate, Spitalfields, Barbican, Fleet street, Hammersmith, Old Street, Victoria, Bank and London Bridge.
